Need advice on a romantic trip to France

Knight
Our anniversary is coming up and I decided to treat the wife to a proper getaway. We're heading to France since everyone always calls it the ultimate country of love and romance. The thing is I actually know next to nothing about the place beyond the basic Eiffel Tower stuff. I need some solid recommendations for actual romantic spots we should check out. Also really need to figure out where to track down a reliable vehicle to drive around the country.

Surprise trips abroad take some serious coordination to pull off smoothly. The reaction is always worth the effort though. Everyone immediately thinks of the capital when talking about romantic spots over there. The big city is great, but the countryside actually delivers a much better local experience. It makes sense to look into the historical estates out in the provinces. Lots of people mention the Loire Valley to check out those massive old castles. You'll definitely need a car that handles narrow village streets well for those rural routes.

Honestly the Loire Valley tip is solid, and Provence is another one that gets overlooked by people focused too much on Paris. Lavender fields, little hilltop villages, great local wine, the whole thing just feels like it was built for couples. The driving part is actually what makes that region worth it because some of those spots aren't reachable any other way. You can sort out rent a car in France here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/france . Pick something comfortable since the routes between villages can stretch longer than you'd expect. Provence rewards just pulling over wherever looks good and wandering around for a bit.
